On the Site Reliability Engineering team as a Linux Engineer you’ll have multitude

of opportunities to flex your strengths as well as learn new things while directly assisting our internal customers. We contribute to (and create) bleeding edge open source projects and continuously push the envelope to explore the future of ecommerce and distributed infrastructure systems. The SRE Linux Engineering team focuses on production engineering by maintaining existing platforms in our ecosystem, as well as improving on operational excellence. Our goal is to manage production PaaS layers uptime running on Linux.

What the Wayfair Site Reliability Engineering team does:

  • Writes clean, high-performance, and well tested, infrastructure code with a focus on reusability.  ( Puppet / Python )
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation
  • Establish, maintain, and adhere to Wayfair technical standards, policies, and procedures
  • Automate, Automate, Automate!
  • Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot daily processes and make improvements to current processes  
  • Recommend and implement infrastructure best practices in alignment with standard SRE principles and provide guidance on system performance and throughput expectations.

What the SRE Linux entails:

  • Working knowledge on Nginx, Haproxy, Puppet, Memcache, Redis, VCL/Varnish
  • Advanced Operating System Skills with knowledge of Linux internals
  • Clear understanding of DNS, CDN, proxies and protocols.
  • Ability to read and write code in any of the scripting languages (Bash,Python)



You ideally have:

  • 3+ years experience in systems and/or software engineering
  • 3+ years of primarily SRE/DevOps engineer experience
  • 2+ years Experience in one or more programing languages used in infrastructure - Ruby, PHP, Python, GO, etc as well as familiarity with version control such as Git
  • 2+ years Experience with IaaS and PaaS architecture and  manage them in production.
  • 3+ years Experience working with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible
  • Clear understanding of DNS, CDN, proxies and protocols.
  • Experience managing full application stack with high availability requirements
  • Experience delivering Operational (daily), Tactical (3-6 month) and Strategic (1-3 year) hardware and software platforms
  • Full understanding of On-Prem to Cloud evolution
  • Able to engage in high-level client-side architecture discussions
  • Experience with performance tuning
  • Advanced Operating System Skills with knowledge of Linux internals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work well within a team
  • BA/BS degree from a 4-year college or university

  • Attend Devops/SRE meetups
  • NoSQL and Caching exposure
  • Experience/Knowledge of Kubernetes
  • Hands on experience with Public Cloud (AWS, GCP, AZURE)
