Job Description

Wayfair is looking for a Software Engineering Manager for our Storefront Payments team to help grow and maintain one of the critical parts of our business. This team owns the central part of our conversion pipeline, while Wayfair’s entire global revenue ($4.7B/year, ↗47%YoY) goes through this team’s product.

In this position, you will be responsible for managing a team of skilled programmers. You will work closely with product managers and business stakeholders, with other teams that own adjacent areas and external vendors (e.g. payment providers), be involved in product design, and have an impact on where we use technology to improve business processes. You'll be a
vital part of Wayfair’s growing business, both in Europe and the US.

Your day-to-day work will look something like this:
• Owning, improving, and building upon our current implementation of Payments layers
• Collaborating with stakeholders along with your product management and user experience partners to understand their business challenges
• Identifying and delivering strategies to push the boundaries of our tech stack
• Managing and expanding sprint teams focused on building innovative solutions
• Coaching engineers and tech leads through career development, including the guidance of junior team members
• Engaging in high-level application architecture discussions while you help plan and execute all phases of the software development lifecycle using Agile scrum methodology

A bit about you:
• You care about people. You’ll have the willingness to be part of the individual
development of engineers on your team: performance management, development plans, coaching – both in technical and non-technical aspects
• Have the tech acumen to dive into the code whenever the need arises
• You entice others into action, being comfortable when speaking to peers of varying levels of experience to build consensus and trust
• Knowledge of PHP (or any other programming language and/or the willingness to learn PHP)
• Experience with software development covering database design, programming, algorithms, performance, and tech architecture management
• Have hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining a full customer-facing application stack
• Understanding of the Web and/or Mobile technology stack is a plus
