Wayfair Basics - Assistant Brand Manager (London or Berlin)

 The Wayfair Basics team is expanding! This is a fantastic opportunity to join a rapidly growing, key strategic area of our business. We are seeking an energetic, analytical and results focused individual with an eye for product and range building.

 In this position, you will be responsible for building our own-label product selection for our German site, in line with the Wayfair Basics strategy. We are looking for a focused and ambitious professional who loves negotiating and is interested in a high visibility role with a great deal of autonomy.

 Responsibilities Include:

  • Working closely with the Brand Manager to build out a Basics range across key categories for the German site
  • Monitor and be accountable for revenue and margins, always aiming to exceed targets
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify products, key suppliers and ensure a joint approach
  • Develop assortment plans, leveraging product instinct, marketplace trends and sales/conversion data
  • Actively negotiate best in market pricing with existing & prospective suppliers
  • Implement cost price changes and be responsible for setting the selling prices on site (map)
  • Partner closely with marketing & promotions teams to ensure maximized exposure for products/brands
  • Actively promote and raise awareness of the brand & strategy, internally and to the supplier base
  • Attend trade shows and exhibits to source product, conduct buying trips as needed to fill assortment gaps quickly
  • Develop industry expertise; understanding critical price points in multiple markets (UK & DE)
  • Work towards a basics offering that we as a team are proud of


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • English and German language fluency required
  • Bachelor degree in Business or a related discipline
  • Experience and demonstrated success in buying, sales or similar relevant field within the housewares, furniture or lifestyle markets is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building a business via effective project management, delivering against aggressive targets and goals in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Experience and preference to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward through rapid change and ambiguity
  • Articulate, persuasive communicator with strong negotiating skills
  • Highly goal oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivated with examples of consistent achievement in previous roles
  • Analytical thinker who looks for and finds answers in data
  • Familiarity with ecommerce sales trends and developments and with retail/ merchandising concepts will be advantageous
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK or Germany
