We are looking for an Associate Director of Payroll, Compensation and Equity who will manage all aspects of payroll processing in our recently launched Workday integrated with ADP and equity administration in Merrill Lynch.  The Associate Director, Compensation and Equity will oversee the compensation and stock equity plan for 8,000+ employees.


  • Lead the strategy and roadmap for all Payroll and Equity Operations to scale with growth
  • Develop best practices in newly live Workday Payroll System integrated with an ADP solution
  • Work cross-functionally with supervisors, managers, and other stakeholders with a customer centric focus
  • Oversee bi-weekly processing of multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes to over 8,000 employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws and other regulatory matters
  • Oversee team’s recording of each payroll to the general ledger and related reconciliations to the general ledger
  • Manage expat compensation and taxation matters
  • Lead compliance audits – 401(k), workmen’s compensation
  • Manage equity administration including employee communications, employee tax withholding and regulatory reporting matters
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate benefit and compensation processing and reporting
  • Seek areas to automate processes and implement systems and applications, as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, controls and processes required under Sarbanes Oxley
  • Looking for a player-coach with hands-on payroll experience


  • 15+ years’ experience processing multi-state payroll and equity administration for company with 5,000+ employees
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Payroll Certification required
  • Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance
  • Previous experience with Workday a plus
