SENIOR ANALYST – Carrier Strategy

The Carrier Strategy team is looking to add a Senior Analyst to our group! This person will apply quantitative skills to answer high-level business and strategy questions and support operational initiatives in the US and abroad. We will consider high-performing but less-experienced candidates for Analyst roles.

The Carrier Strategy team take a highly data-driven approach to developing and managing strategic relationships with major national and regional carriers. We design and drive supply chain initiatives in pursuit of cost efficiency, operational excellence, and a best-in-class customer experience.  We are part of Wayfair’s Logistics organization, which develops and manages the execution of the operational strategy for all Wayfair geographies (US, Europe, & Canada) and brands (Wayfair, AllModern, Joss & Main, Birch Lane, and Castlegate Fulfillment).   

What you will do:

  • Provide structured analytical and business support for designing and implementing Small Parcel projects and initiatives
  • Translate high-level business problems into more specific questions which can then be answered by data-driven analysis
  • Partner with in-house tech and consulting teams to identify, validate, and iterate on key business requirements for technology solutions that will support various carrier strategy initiatives
  • Regularly present data and insights with a clear point of view, both in meetings and via email
  • Extract, qualify, structure, and model large datasets using SQL and Excel
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support urgent business requests

 Example Projects:

  • Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities in our Small Parcel carrier network; areas include volume shifts between 3rd party carrier, reclassification of bulky items to our Large Parcel network, and consolidation of customer orders into fewer packages
  • Drive analysis of new carrier partnership opportunities and work cross-functionally with tech and operations teams to manage carrier onboarding
  • Support high-visibility projects to grow Wayfair’s international presence by deep-diving supply chain initiatives in new geographies
  • Provide senior leadership with financial and operational insights by analyzing 3rd party carrier contracts and determining sensitivity around key negotiating points such as minimum charges and volume-based discounts

 Who you are:

  • At least 2 - 5 years of experience in an analytical/consulting role; supply chain or logistics experience a plus
  • Undergraduate degree in Economics, Business, Mathematics, or other concentrations with heavy quantitative focus strongly preferred
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills. Able to analyze large sets of data, pull out insights, and then proactively communicate those insights
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work successfully within and across teams
  • Extensive experience working with Excel is required, SQL and other languages a plus
  • Previous experience executing on projects and presenting to senior leadership
  • Passion for solving complex business problems and resourcefulness in obtaining data when clean and/or complete information is not available
  • Positive, people-oriented, and enthusiastic
  • Software frontend development or design experience a plus
  • Prior experience with agile/scrum and waterfall development methodologies a plus
